More than half of these items are not discussed previously.

I don’t like to replicate previous content, but some of the items here have been discussed previously. I hope that this is made clear enough that you can filter it out if you want. I’ve attempted to provide an objective list of features that you can evaluate. I have a big soft spot for Ardour both because of its goals and its functionality.

Having access to UAD plugins is great for amp sims and other stuff that just has no competition in native plugins world (OWS for example) but most of the time these can be rendered early in the mix, unfortunately I can't justify the price of adding a satellite especially when there are cheaper options that are probably 90% as good, music production is not my source of income.

Sure the key bindings can be changed but it doesn't inspire confidence and just serves to frustrate me.īut on the plus side it does sound great, the tape saturation on the mixbus channels is extremely good, the compressors and eq are excellent quality and I really like the mixer GUI !Īt the moment i'm kind of focussed on trying to go a more native route, I only have a twin duo and am hesitant to invest further in UAD sharcs, which is the main reason I was interested in mixbus (ok also because it's a very cheap option!). It's very non standard generally, I mean things like using the cursor keys to select mixer channels or using up and down cursor in the arrange window like every other DAW.

Mixbus 4 is a great price at the moment but if I was going to go this route I would probably want the 32c with the full channel eq and extra 4 busses, may as well wait for a good sale on 32c insteadĥ. Inserts in the mixer, similar to point 2, there's very little space to navigate plugins on a 1920x1080 screen, more than one of two on a channel and it's impossible to get to them without some very fiddly scrolling, I know the point of mixbus is to not use many plugins but this seems very restrictive to say the least.Ĥ. It's better on my 27" imac screen, but that's not where I want the mixerģ. The mixer window is difficult to navigate even on a standard 1920x1080 screen, the mixbus channels are fixed to be always seen and even with them in the slim mode it leaves only enough room for a handful of channels to be seen, it would be nice if you could detach the mixbus section and have it as a separate window. There's no way i'd go back to using a mouse.Ģ. I use an apple trackpad rather than a mouse, the mixer is a nightmare with a trackpad, it's far too easy to move faders and other settings by mistake without noticing. So after giving it a fair few days trial, i've decided to pass on it for now.
